The Circus Society has been one of the most underrepresented societies in the Fresher's Fair celebrated twice every course year at the University of Kent. After encompassing more than 80 firms of people signing up for this society's membership last year, the number of members has decreased to a total of no more than 20 in 2019. This blog is aimed to portray and show the true nature of the Circus Society to the rest of students in campus. It is not only a place to come and practice creative activities with other people, it also allows you to have your own headspace to think and develop skills. Most people make presumptions of what the society is all about; clowns and juggling. But there is nothing further from the truth. They are an evolving collective of artists at varying levels of skill, that welcome creative characters from all disciplines. Their interest for many practices in the discipline allows for them to engage in a bigger group where they can feel free to practice and ask for help if needed.
Some pictures and videos will be uploaded to this blog from my previous work in Visual Anthropology to render the interrelated spheres that compose the Circus Society; its wide range of activities, the possibility to develop skills, their network of events and community are what inspired me to research and be part of the experience from both the inside and outside, in order to be able to grasp the true essence of the Circus Society and its people.Warmth trough movement is represented through dynamic activities, such as fire-spinning.
